駐車場(2015) / parking lot(2015)

近所のお寺の一般客用駐車場です。よく目にする空き地や駐車場より一回り大きなその空間は、日中しか使われないため照明がありません。

徐々に暗闇に目が慣れてくると、向かいの家屋の庭木や屋根の模様も見えてきますが、何時間経ってもずっと暗いままの場所があります。そうした「陽だまり」ならぬ「闇だまり」を見つけると、闇はどのように溜まるものか観察し描いています。

This is a parking lot for the general public at a nearby temple. The space, which is one size larger than most vacant lots or parking lots, is used only during the daytime and therefore has no lighting.

As your eyes gradually become accustomed to the darkness, you can see the patterns of the trees and roofs of the houses across the street, but there are places that remain dark for hours on end. When I find such "dark spots," I observe and draw how the darkness accumulates.
